Shake it Off

The thing about life is that some days you wake up, and the hand that you got dealt that day is terrible. With out any pairs, triples, or flushes. Just a bunch of random cards that at the time, seem like they mean nothing except total and utter b-s. And the thing is, there’s nothing you can do about it. Sometimes life just sucker punches you. And you know what you have to do? Roll with the punches. Get it? So much of life is out of your own control. Which kinda sucks and kinda doesn’t. What’s that all about?

The truth is, if life didn’t give you a shock every now and then, you would remain stagnant. And being stagnant is the worst. Even just the word stagnant – it’s just terrible, sounds like stench that would take weeks to wash out of your clothes.

Think about it. Think back to that person that you dated who even though you knew you had problems, you wanted it to go places. Then one day, they came to you and said, I don’t love you anymore. Hurts right? But were you still in love with that person? We’re you actually happy? Did you really want to live in a trailer out in the county while he philandered with floozies that had their thongs hanging out of their pants? I don’t think so. (Don’t worry everyone, me and Mr. Opposite are better than ever).

Or what about that program you applied for and didn’t get in? Five years later does it matter? Either it pushed you to find a new path, or you worked your butt off so they would accept you. That’s not so bad. You just learned how to work hard.

It’s hard I know, when you’re a planner. And you have every weekend planned for months. And you have a life in mind that your planning for. But what do rivers do when they reach obstacles? They find a new route. Or they make a wicked lake. Both are awesome. Lakes are the best. They don’t have any sharks. Sometimes the best things happen to you when you’re not planning for them. It’s when you’re surprised that you can live up to your potential. Because when you’re surprised, you’ve given the chance to rise to the challenge. To move to the top and to go for everything that you’ve ever wanted.

So to all those who are struggling right now, in the words of T-Swift, it’s time to Shake it Off. Things will get back on track and head on the up and up, and when they do, you’ll be so happy about your unexpected circumstance.
