Last year on my 33rd birthday, I decided that this year was my Jesus year! Meaning that this year was going to be my year and I was going to RISE UP RISE UP. But I didn’t realize that it meant that it was going to suck for a while. And what do you know, parts of this year really sucked major suckiness. If you’re wondering why it’s my Jesus year, it’s because according to the mythological book known as the bible, Jesus lived to be 33 years old. Then he was crucified, and then he rose up. Just like this girl!
Anyway, this year was filled of some of the lowest lows that I have ever faced. What’s that all about? At one point, I was sleeping with my teddy bear again. But only for like a week because that’s how sex stops happening.
And yet, even though it was a hard year, at the same time, this year has been the absolute best year of my life. First of all, I got out of a job that I was no longer happy at. I was selling something I didn’t believe in and it was eating away at my soul. Mind you, I loved the people that I worked with, and I got to do some of the coolest things ever. So, reluctantly, I faced the music and went on my way. And, after a few weeks, I realized that I was infinitely happier.
Because of this, it opened the door for me to be more creative. I worked on my book a lot more, started the Ask the Non-Mom series and, in July, I started a video series with a standup comedian friend. Her name is Sara Starkman and she’s super funny. The two of us, along with our friend Ravi, have been filming and editing the series over the last few months and will hopefully be releasing some of the videos soon!
Early summer, my best friend asked me to be her Maid of Honour. An honour I am honoured to have. I also had three bridal showers that were all so much fun and I felt so loved! AND I got to go to Wonderland which to me is worth noting as significant because it was awesome!
Then late August, I was contacted about a job I had interviewed for (and really wanted) in February. At the time, it just didn’t make sense. I wasn’t 100% sure I was ready to leave advertising, and the company wasn’t quite ready to fill the role. Then come August, it was time for them to hire, and after about a month and a half later, the meetings turned into me having a job that I’m pretty sure I’m going to be great at. And I’m super excited about this. I’m out of advertising and yet still in advertising. I get to do the best part of it and I’m so happy about it!
I also went to my summer camp reunion which left me feeling happy and reminiscent. And I had the worlds best bachelorette and I got to see Mr. Opposite play in a band. Oh, and I got to spend a lot of quality time with my adorable niece and nephew, and got to strengthen my relationship with my amazing brother and my awesome sister-in-law!
And, on October 17th, I married Mr. Opposite. Can you believe it? My best friend and perfect opposite wanted to marry me!! It truly was the absolute best day of my life and I truly have never been happier.
So, with that, here’s where I’m at now:
- Dream man – check!
- Dream friends – check!
- Dream writing partner – check!
- Dream wedding – check!
- Dream job – check!
- Dream family – check! (I LOVE MY IN-LAWS!)
Needless to say, I’m happy, excited and really looking forward to all that the future holds. This has been the best year of my life that involved a lot of self-reflection, learning and more love than I ever could have imagined.
And a giant thank you to the stars for lining everything up for me.
