So this has been the longest I have ever gone ever without writing. I’m sorry. I missed you. Actually, I missed myself more. Is that bad? Anyway, since you’re all SO curious, I thought I’d tell you what I’ve been up to in the last 5 or so weeks. Drumroll please:
Flew with Porter to Ottawa three times for work.
Yup. Three times. And it took me to the third time to not mess it up. The first time I went with two colleagues to be briefed on a new campaign that we had just won. When I arrived at the airport, I met one of my colleagues, I will call her Marie and at the security gates we parted ways because she needed to reprint her ticket. So, for a normal person this would have been a seamless separation. But for me, it was nearly the end of the world. Or so it felt.
While I waited for Marie to join me, I started to prep my speech that I had to give to my clients. You see, I have worked with them for years on many different things in the past, but Marie and Tricia (who was also coming with us), this was their first time meeting the client. I had to be on my A-game. At about 15 minutes before my flight took off, I started to wonder where the ladies were and why they hadn’t started boarding. I texted Marie forgetting that her phone was dead and kept waiting. Finally I got off my butt to see where my flight was (how could they not have called it yet) and then headed over to the help desk. Turns out I was trying to fly to the US rather than Ottawa that day. What’s that all about? I nearly had an aneurism as one of the clerks walked me quickly to the other gate. While on our way, I noticed a plane starting to roll away and exclaimed ‘IS THAT MY PLANE?’ She unreassuringly said ‘I don’t know.’ Anyway, it was my plane and Tricia and Marie were on it, without me.
When we got to the desk at the Canadian terminal, the Porter attendees told me their was nothing they could do and that they’d have to put me on the next flight. Panicked I said ‘Can’t you get the plane to stop, I’m right here.’ Clearly I’ve watched one too many rom-coms. Then I told them ‘But I have a business meeting!’ Newsflash Woodall, everyone at Porter has a business meeting. Thankfully however, they got me on the next flight, and I made it to my meeting with 7 minutes to spare. I owe Porter everything I own at this point.
The next time I flew to Ottawa was about two weeks later for the creative presentation that was the result of the first meeting. Little did I know, I was coming down with pneumonia. Apparently I’m a ‘healthy’ adult that has the immune system of a 90 year old. Anyway, due to my sickness I forgot my computer and my credit card. Luckily, Lyranda had her computer (check), and she’s a points hog, so she wanted to pay for everything anyway (credit card check). Extra luckily, the room we were in didn’t have computer access so good thing I had my coordinator drop off all of the presentation decks the night before at my apartment while I was overdosing on NyQuil.
The third time I flew, I not only was in the right terminal, I also had my credit card and computer. I call that a win.
Me and Mr. Opposite moved from our ‘too expensive to do anything’ apartment to our ‘we’ve finally made a good fiscal decision as a couple’ apartment. I almost look like a grownup now.
I got pneumonia.
Who gets pneumonia (in the summer no less) that’s over 10 and under 80? This girl! I was sick like crazy sick for over two weeks. Even now, I have to be careful for the next three months as my immune system recovers. In hindsight, I should have gone to the doctor the second I noticed my lungs making similar sounds to a witches pot. However, I still managed to work from home everyday and I lost a bunch of weight. In the words of Lyranda (she’s very funny BTW) ‘nearly dying looks great on you!’
I was part of a team that launched a new division at work.
This felt pretty cool. And now that the launch party has happened, I finally feel like I can takeover the world. You may call me Brain.
We booked our trip to Paris and London.
Just so you know, when I come back, I’m going to be so cultured. No big deal.
I started taking a standup course.
So I like to punish myself, and at the end of this course, I will be performing a 5 minute set at Absolute Comedy. If you want to come, it’s Sunday Sept 28, from 2-5. We don’t know when we’re going on so you better get there on time or you may miss me.
Anyway, that’s been me in the last while. Sorry I haven’t written. Just so you know, I’m back to myself again and you’ll be hearing from me on the regular as per usual.
