King’s Quest VI: Hier Today, Gone Tomorrow.
In 1992, Sierra Entertainment released the 6th story in the King’s Quest computer game series. And yes my friends it was everything you wanted and needed it to be. For those who were cool as a child in the 90’s you may not remember King’s Quest VI. But for me, I remember it vividly. What’s that all about? You see, while my cooler friends were out kissing boys and talking on the phone, I was either figure skating, playing soccer, swimming, or begging for my turn to play King’s Quest VI on our IBM clone. Having an older brother and only one computer made sharing a toxic past time.
Anyway, when I did get my opportunity to play, the amazing graphics (guys, it was the 90’s so the graphics although are craptastic now, were like something out of the future at the time), and complex storyline took my still active imagination (I hadn’t lost it totally yet, I was 12 when we got the game) and inspired dreams of being a hero, and a rescued princess. Depending on the day, depended on who I recognized with. Being an young independent woman, I always thought I’d do the rescuing. However, the thought of a prince coming to rescue me was intriguing as well. So, I’d help Alexander on his mission to save the princess. It was the least I could do.
So, movie makers, here’s the pitch:
We the people, are ready for a new fantasy princess/prince rescue movie. We’re ready for ships, magic books, minotaurs, and cabbages that have faces. We want live action, mixed with animation. We want A-list actors. We want King’s Quest VI. We’re ready. We’re so ready that I’ve done the casting for you:
Prince Alexander: James Franco
Gruff: Seth Rogen
Bump on a Log/Bookworm/Woof: Robin Williams
Stick in the Mud: Gilbert Gottfried
Queen: Amy Poehler (with old lady make-up on)
Princess Cassima: Zooey Deschanel
You get the gist. If Hollywood opts to make this movie, it would be awesome, and it could be the start of a franchise, and we all know how much Hollywood loves a good franchise. A lot.
If you were a KQ nerd like me, please share. Maybe someone will make this for us! Oh and as a gift, here is a complete run-through of the game with multiple ending options played through. You’re welcome.
