Not sure if you caught this last night, but at the Junos (aka Canada’s music awards show) Justin Bieber won the fan choice award against a group of quality contenders. What happened next astounded me; when the award was announced, Mr. Bieber was boo’d. Actually boo’d. Really Canada? You booed him? That is not very Canadian of you. Yes, he’s a brat. Yes, he’s disrespectful and a bit of an idiot. But to boo him? That’s just wrong. As Canadians, we’re supposed to be nice, funny and polite. Not cutthroat bullies (except for Kevin O’Leary, he’s just an ass). What’s that all about?
I realize I shouldn’t be one to criticize because I make jokes about Bieber all the time. You know, like when he wore overalls to meet our Prime Minister, but a tux to meet President Obama. Or when his deposition came out and he came off looking like a giant d-bag. But that’s what comedians do; they poke fun, they jest, they observe and point out. But I wouldn’t boo, unless it was a joke boo. Maybe it’s a case of the ‘worst’ bringing out the worst in us?
Picture this, you’re in your late-teens-early-20’s going through a crazy time in your life, you win a huge award and the audience boos. Literally boos. Ouch. That has to sting. The booing actually caught me off guard. We’re Canadians, we’re not mean. But there we were booing an immature child. We have to remember that…he’s just a child, with a lot of money, and no one around him telling him no. This is what happens to a lot of child stars. You saw what happened Dickie Roberts didn’t you? Oh, that was just me?
Maybe at least, Bieber will start to think on how his behaviour has affected his image. And that his atrocious behaviour has caused a huge uproar of negativity resulting in his fellow countrymen to act out of character. But I doubt that, he doesn’t seem that self aware yet. He’s too young to be self aware.
Ps. Why were the Juno Awards a giant advertisement with every line stated being a ‘sponsored by’ line?
Pps. Apparently he get’s booed a lot… 2013 Billboard Awards
